The East Point College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bangalore is a gem in the crown of Jnana Prabha Campus of the MG Charitable Trust. The sprawling campus spread over one hundered acers of landscape is situated at Bidarahalli in the eastern part of Bangalore Urban District. The Jnana Prabha Campus houses an educational institution that ranges from technology to humanities and health sciences. These include the East Point College of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Engineering and Technology, College of Management, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, PU College and Schools.
Courses
The Department of Anatomy is located in the Ground floor of the College building. The department is well equipped with modern infrastructure and dedicated faculty to teach and train the students in a professional way. It includes Dissection Hall, Histology Laboratory, Research Lab, Museum and Demonstration rooms, well equipped with Audio-visual teaching aids like Microscopes (uniocular, Binocular and dissection microscopes) microscope with T.V. monitor, overhead projectors, computers, printers, L.C.D projector.
The study of physiology is, in a sense, the study of life. It answers the question about the internal workings of organisms and how they interact with the world around them.
Physiology studies how the organs and systems within the body work, how they speak to each other, and how they combine their efforts to make conditions favorable for survival.
The Department of Physiology is one of the first three Departments of the M.B.B.S. program.
Medical biochemistry is a subject that incorporates the study of biological and biochemical functioning of human life. Department of biochemistry studies the basic of biology & chemistry through meticulously designed training methods, which is vital for understanding the physiology of life. The department innovates constantly to provide the students with a firm foundation so that it enables them to comprehend the relevance of biochemistry and apply them in their future work as health care professionals.
Pathology is a branch of medical science primarily concerning the cause, origin and nature of disease. It involves the examination of tissues, organs, body fluids and autopsies in order to study and diagnose disease.
The institution possesses a well-equipped diagnostic laboratory with Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology and Histopathology services and carrying out a plethora of investigations aiming at proper and definitive diagnosis. The laboratory possesses a dedicated diagnostic and teaching faculty. The students are imparted with medical education through didactic lectures, practical classes, tutorials, group teaching, seminars and integrated teaching. Individual attention, cognizance with innovative ideas is bestowed on every student in the teaching-learning process. The Department is equipped with well-furnished laboratory and lecture hall. The modern audio visual teaching aids are provided besides the conventional teaching methods. A museum displaying the various pathological specimens, charts of the luminaries, specific diseases and models. A separate departmental library is also available with the requisite number of books.
Microbiology is a specialty taught during phase II of MBBS course. It deals with infectious agents, diseases caused by them and also prevention and control. Microbiology is taught under five branches that is, Bacteriology, Immunology, Virology, Parasitology and Mycology.
The faculty of medical Microbiology has experience in catering to patient services by investigating, identifying the infectious agents and in interpreting various tests performed for the identification of the infectious agents.
The department also runs a central laboratory in the hospital which caters to patients needs 24X7. It also actively aids in investigating outbreaks of communicable diseases in the surrounding areas.
Pharmacology deals with pharmaceutical drugs, their chemical formulary, their source, effects and side effects. It also studies their interactions when used in combination with other drugs. The student is also taught the basics of drug preparation, absorption in the body and drug excretion in addition to the mode of action of the drug in the human body.
The Central Animal House which complies with ICMR, CPCSEA, MCI and the Institutional Ethical requirements as well as safe environment policies complete the department of Pharmacology
The department teaches the student legal aspects of medical practice and assists the judiciary in solving criminal cases with a thorough knowledge of Juries Prudence based on scientific facts. The department is provided spacious laboratories and well-equipped seminar hall, all the facilities are as per the norms of the MCI. Every student will have access to X-ray lobbies and illumination lamps as well as microscopes for examination of forensic trace evidences.
The laboratory has a stock of X-ray images that are an invaluable aid to teach the students about estimation of age from ossification. The laboratory will also have teeth molds and orthopantamographic photos to teach age estimation by dentition. The laboratory will also have a large collection of bones to help students understand the various aspects of forensic sciences including age estimation.
MUSEUM
The Forensic Department’s museum will have a good collection of forensic photographs, wet specimens, different species of well-preserved snakes, chemical and plant poisons, weapons of assault and various sport, industrial, as well as domestic implements.
Health is not only the absence of disases but includes a sense of physical, social, mental and spiritual well being. This is the essence of community medicine. The student here learns how to conduct camps along with other specialists to serve the people at the village level and interesting cases are referred to the hospital for further investigation. They study the problems of rural living and ameliorate the villagers of their difficulties
On an average about 2 camps are conducted every week.
The Department provides health education to the public about personal hygiene, birth control, health care and the importance of immunization and child care.
